The Chemist I position is responsible for supporting sensor development efforts related to test method development, test execution, data collection, and root cause analysis. Experience with laboratory equipment and procedures following good laboratory practices and standard chemical handling procedures is needed for the candidate to be successful in the role. The candidate will work with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, mechanical, and electrical disciplines, as well as technicians, engineers, and scientists.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience executing testing and data collection in a chemistry laboratory focused on product development and manufacturing operations support. Additionally, the candidate must be proactive and demonstrate initiative in a fast-moving development team to support all sensor testing efforts and enable on-time delivery and problem solving. The candidate will have the opportunity to experience a growing start-up and develop industry experience and skills across a broad range of responsibilities around analytical testing.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Under direction from senior chemists and engineers, conduct sensor performance testing following procedures and utilizing equipment and fixtures in a chemistry laboratory and manufacturing setting.

  • Operation of testing equipment to characterize Laxmi sensors.

  • Formulation of solutions for chemical deposition processes and testing.

  • Qualification testing and analysis of incoming materials as well as solutions and materials prepared in house (e.g., composition, pH).

  • Detailed record keeping of solution formulations, sensor fabrication processes, and testing results.

  • Perform procedural calibrations, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of instruments and equipment.

  • Management and organization of chemical and material inventory systems.

  • Effectively communicate project plans and results in both oral and written form.

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry or related degree with 6 months to 2 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.

  • Experience with common analytical tools and instrumentation (UV-Vis, pH meter, microscope).

  • Aptitude to run complex laboratory equipment.

  • Comfortable handling hazardous chemicals.

  • Flexibility to work in an environment where the workload changes frequently.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong skills related to using Microsoft software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other electronic software related to specific equipment.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs.

  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours in a single day while running experiments.

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and follow all safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of hands-on research experience.

  • Experience with documentation and following SOPs.

  • Experience with potentiostats.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle and process small components and parts.

  • Experience with device fabrication (medical device is a plus).

  • Prior start-up experience and the ability to quickly adapt in a fast-paced and fast-changing environment.

Travel: Up to 10% travel may be required

Job Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience
